eLearning
Also known as التعلم الإلكتروني
Definition
eLearning is structured training delivered through digital technology, typically as self-contained online modules combining text, media, interaction and assessment. It covers everything from a short compliance course to a full certification program, and is usually distributed and tracked through a learning platform.
The term is broad enough to be nearly meaningless on its own, which is why it is usually qualified: self-paced or facilitated, mandatory or optional, mobile or desktop. Two programs both described as eLearning can differ more than one of them differs from classroom training.
Its economics explain its dominance in large organizations. Development cost is front-loaded and delivery cost per additional learner is close to zero, so it suits stable content delivered to many people. Content that changes monthly, or skills requiring physical practice and live judgment, rarely justify the build.
