Definition
Learning in the flow of work delivers guidance at the moment of need, inside the task and the tools people already use, rather than requiring them to leave work and enter a course. It covers embedded job aids, in-application walkthroughs, searchable procedures and short answers surfaced where the question arises.
The design constraint is time: someone stopped mid-task will spend seconds, not minutes. Content therefore has to be findable by the words a person would actually search, answer the specific question directly, and be trusted to be current — a stale procedure at the point of need is worse than none.
It complements formal training rather than replacing it. Judgment, underlying principles and genuinely new skills still require dedicated learning time; the flow of work is where that capability is applied, reinforced and kept accurate as procedures change.
