Skills Gap Analysis

L&D Fundamentals

Also known as تحليل الفجوة المهارية

Definition

Skills gap analysis compares the skills an organization currently holds against those its strategy requires, at a given point in time. The output is a prioritized list of gaps with a decision attached to each: build the skill internally, buy it through hiring, borrow it via contractors, or redesign the work so the gap no longer matters.

Credibility depends on the inventory being real rather than aspirational. Self-assessment alone inflates ratings; job titles conceal wide variation between people holding the same one. Combining self-assessment with manager validation and, where it exists, evidence of demonstrated work produces a picture teams are willing to act on.

Gap analysis is also perishable. Skill demand shifts with technology and market conditions, so a one-off exercise dates quickly. Organizations that revisit it on a cycle, and treat it as an input to workforce planning rather than a training wish list, get the value.
