Social Learning
Also known as التعلم الاجتماعي
Definition
Social learning is capability developed through interaction with others — observation, discussion, peer feedback, coaching, communities of practice and user-generated content. Bandura's social learning theory established the mechanism: people acquire behavior substantially by watching credible others and seeing the consequences of their actions.
In workplace terms this is the largest and least managed part of the learning ecosystem. New staff learn how work is really done by watching colleagues, including the shortcuts that formal training does not mention. L&D can shape that channel by making good practice visible rather than by trying to suppress the informal one.
Platform features alone do not create social learning. Discussion forums stay empty without a reason to post, credible people participating, and moderation. What reliably works is anchoring interaction to a shared task or cohort, where discussion has a purpose beyond participation metrics.
