Course Completion Rate

Measurement & Impact

Also known as معدل إكمال الدورة

Definition

Course completion rate is the proportion of enrolled learners who finish a course within a defined period. It is the most reported learning metric because it is unambiguous and easy to collect, and it is the usual evidence of coverage for required and regulated training.

Completion shows that a learner reached the end of a course. Paired with a passed assessment, it shows they met that assessment's standard on the day. Neither shows whether they now work differently. Programs judged on the completion number tend to shorten content and soften assessment, which improves the metric and weakens the effect.

The rate is useful in two ways. Where completing the course is itself what is required, the rate and the records behind it give a history of who completed what, and when. It also works as a diagnostic: a module with a sharp mid-course drop-off usually has an identifiable problem at that point, such as its length, its difficulty, a broken interaction or an irrelevant section.
