Definition

Immersive learning uses virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality to place learners in a spatial environment where they can practice with physical presence. VR replaces the surroundings entirely; AR overlays guidance onto the real workplace through a headset, tablet or phone.

The evidence is strongest where spatial and physical factors are the skill: equipment operation, plant layout and safety walkthroughs, procedures requiring the right sequence of physical actions, and rehearsal of high-stress situations where presence changes behavior in a way a screen cannot reproduce.

The practical constraints are hardware logistics, hygiene and comfort for shared headsets, content production cost, and the fact that VR does not scale to a distributed workforce as easily as mobile content. AR often delivers more value per riyal spent because it runs on devices staff already carry.
