Definition
A Learning Experience Platform (LXP) organizes learning around discovery rather than assignment. It aggregates content from many sources, recommends it based on role, interest and behavior, and lets learners follow, curate and contribute — resembling a content platform more than an administrative system of record.
The LMS-versus-LXP framing is largely a marketing artifact today: most established LMS products have added recommendation and social features, and most LXPs have added tracking and compliance reporting. The meaningful question is which behavior the platform optimizes for — mandated completion or voluntary exploration.
LXPs succeed where there is genuine discretionary demand for development and a content supply worth browsing. Deployed into a population that only ever logs in to complete assigned compliance modules, the discovery features go unused and the investment is hard to defend.
